The First Interplanetary Championship was a racing competition held on Earth in 2072. It was the first friendly match between the Humans and two of their alien neighbors, the Phils and the Clans.
The leaders of all three peoples were present (including Governor McMullen of the Earth Coalition). Several pilots from all the three peoples competed in the race. The two best pilots were Maya Wei, champion of Earth, and Spirit, champion of the Phils. In the final match these two pilots raced against each other, but to everyone's horror, Maya's ship exploded and crashed before it reached the finish line.
It is unknown how the tragic outcome of the Championship affected Earth's relations with the Phils, but at least two Humans believed Spirit had caused Maya's crash; her husband and manager, Don Wei, and their daughter, Eva. It is also unknown if any Interplantery Championships were held afterward.
